Haiti Earthquake

A 7.2-magnitude earthquake hit the southwestern area of Haiti on Saturday, August 14 causing loss of life & injury, damages to buildings, and impacting around 1.2 million people. This earthquake is another devastating event in addition to political unrest, critical inflation, and recovery from previous natural disasters. Recovery efforts had to be halted briefly during Tropical Storm Grace. If you would like to offer financial assistance, there are two ways you can help:

  • ELCA Disaster Response: Donations may be made through Ascension using your offering envelopes.  Please write "ELCA Disaster Response: Haiti Earthquake Relief" on your offering envelopes.
  • Maire-Claire - the young woman Ascension supported to receive an education - informed the congregation that the church building and parish house where her brother, Joseph Charles, serves was damaged by the earthquake.  If you would like to donate to help with the restoration and repair, please make your gift through Ascension and write "Paroisse Saint Michael Cayes - Haiti" on your offering envelope.

Thank you in advance for your prayers and contributions!

ELCA Disaster Response

The U.S. has been devastated by a series of disasters over past year and a half: the COVID-19 pandemic, Wildfires in the Western part of the country, and Hurricanes/Tropical Storms in the Southern/Eastern part.  If you would like to make a donation to the relief and recovery efforts, or if you would like to read about the work of ELCA Disaster in these areas, click here to learn more about this ministry.

Solanco CROP Walk

The annual Solanco CROP Walk will be held at Muddy Run State Park on Saturday, October 16.  The walk is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. – Noon, but you are encouraged to arrive at 8:30 a.m. for registration and pre-walk events.  The CROP Walk is an annual event to raise awareness and funds to fight against the challenges of disease, disaster, displacement, and other concerns that leave people hungry.  If you would like to form a team, please contact Pastor Maureen.  If you would like to donate, you can donate through your offering envelope (please mark them “CROP Walk”) or online (click here).

Lydia Circle

The next Lydia Circle meeting will be on Tuesday, October 5 at 7:00 p.m.  The meeting will be Bible Trivia Night.  All women of the parish are welcome to attend.

Casting our Nets: Prayer Shawl Ministry

Casting our Nets meets every 1st and 3rd Monday at 7:00 p.m. in the conference room.

Update on Financial Record Keeping

Thank you to everyone who supports our ministry partners (i.e., Bridge of Hope, Solanco Food Bank, etc.) through your financial gifts.  A note about the record keeping of those gifts: If you make your donation by check, please make it payable to “Ascension Lutheran Church” and place the designation of that gift on the Memo Line and your offering envelope.  If you make your donation payable to the organization (i.e., Bridge of Hope, Solanco, etc.), the Church Treasurer will mail your gift directly to the ministry partner; however, we cannot record your contribution on your church giving record (although, you should receive an acknowledgment of the gift from the organization to which you have given it).  Again, thank you for your continued support!
