Annual Congregational Meeting

The annual meeting of the congregation will be on Sunday, January 31 at 9:30 a.m.  The meeting will be conducted in a hybrid form: in-person up to 50 people, online via Zoom videochat, or via Zoom telephone.   Please see the January/February newsletter for information about how to sign up for the meeting if you plan to attend either in-person (call the church office) or via Zoom (contact Pastor Maureen). Estimate of Giving Cards were sent to members of Ascension.  We ask each member to please prayerfully consider their financial commitment to Ascension for 2021 by writing that commitment on the card and returning the card to the church office.  Cards can be returned now through the end of the year.  Thank you to everyone for your continued financial support of Ascension!  

2021 Giving Envelopes are available in the narthex

You are welcome to stop by the church to pick up your envelopes.  The office is open on M, T, and Th from 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. The envelopes will be found on tables in front of the Welcome Center.  Boxes are in alphabetical order by last name.  

Mortgage Reduction Update

At the end of 2019, Ascension began a Mortgage Reduction Campaign.  The remaining balance on the mortgage (as of 8/15/20) is $172,315.  Since the beginning of the campaign, $54,612 was raised from the congregation and applied to the mortgage principal.  Ascension will continue to provide updates through the year as we move forward.  Thank you to everyone for your continued support!  If you would like to make a gift to reduce the mortgage principal, please mark your giving envelope "Mortgage Reduction."    

Prayer Shawls

 Casting Our Nets, Ascension's Prayer Shawl Ministry, provides beautifully knitted and crocheted prayer shawls to members, family, and friends of the congregation.  If you would like a prayer shawl to give to someone experiencing illness, loss, or another need, please stop by the church.  Prayer shawls can be found in the closet located in the church library.  

Joseph's Table: Take-out

The next take-out meal is scheduled for Thursday, January 21 from 5:30-6:30p.m. They will need volunteers to cook, package, and distribute the meal.  If you would like to help, please contact Rhonda Miller (click here) or call the church office.  Join us as we continue to serve our neighbors!

TLC: Bridging Homelessness to Housing

 Lydia Circle will be sponsoring another in-kind donation for the month of December (concludes 12/20/20).  They will be accepting donations for TLC/Veteran's Victory House, a shelter that works with homeless veterans and their families.  The following items are needed: Diapers (size 5 and 6); canned soup and jelly, juice boxes small bottles of dish soap, Dreft detergent, receiving baby blankets, baby bottles.  You are welcome to place items in the tub located in the narthex or bring your items to the Tuesday collection (10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.).  

Lydia Circle

Lydia Circle will NOT meet in February due to COVID-19 concerns.  Please see upcoming announcements for updates to the Lydia Circle schedule.  

Ascension Academy

Ascension Academy has completed its first semester with flying colors! To date, seven students are receiving weekly instruction on the clarinet, flute, saxophone, piano, and guitar. Lessons are being given by Janine Thomas, principal clarinetist of the Lancaster Symphony, and our Minister of Music, John Zielinski. Lessons are being taught in a large room with ample space for social distancing and an air filtration system. Hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes are available. The narthex provides a comfortable and spacious area for parents to wait while their children receive instruction.

Solanco Food Bank Donations

The Solanco Food Bank is providing emergency food and items to families in need.  The food bank is asking for the following items: 

Food Items: Bags of sugar, Chef Boyardee (micro meals), Chef Boyardee (cans), Rice-a-Roni (chicken), applesauce (24 oz.), Hamburger Helper, Tuna Helper

Non-Food items: Laundry Detergent, Dishwashing Soap, Facial Tissues

Please bring these items to the church between 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. on Tuesdays.  You may also make monetary donations to the food bank by: 1) Making a donation through your giving envelope (Please write "Solanco Food Bank" on the envelope); 2) Send a check directly to Solanco Neighborhood Ministries (write "Food Bank" on the memo link), 355 Buck Road, Quarryville, PA 17566.
