A Note about COVID

Please be aware that COVID cases are starting to increase around the country.  If you feel unwell or have been exposed, you are encouraged to stay at home, if possible, to mitigate exposure.  Ascension will continue to live stream the worship services on Facebook and post them to the YouTube page for later viewing.  If someone reports a case to Pastor Maureen (after attending a church event), Pastor Maureen will update the congregation in the email blast (Please note that confidentiality will be maintained).  


Community Yard Sale

Ascension will host a community yard sale on Saturday, September 23rd from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Vendor spots are available.  The suggested donation is: $10 per space, or $15 for space and one table.  Spots and tables are limited.

Please note: We WILL NOT be collecting donated items to sell on behalf of the congregation.  We ask that you reserve a space and take any unsold items home with you at the conclusion of the sale. 

The congregation will be accepting donations of baked goods and food items to sell that day.  We will also need people to help prepare food, sell food, set-up/clean-up, and act as parking lot attendants.  You may sign up on the bulletin board.  Contact information can be found in the email blast and the announcement sheet. 


New Members Classes

For those desiring or considering entering into membership at Ascension, classes will be held on Sundays, September 17 and 24 following worship (starting approximately at 10:45 a.m.).  These classes will include topics like: history and ministries of Ascension; Lutheran polity; and other matters.  We will meet in the conference room.  

 

Joseph's Table Community Meal

The next take-out only meal will be held on Thursday, September 21st from 5:30-6:00 p.m.  Serving Spaghetti with sauce, salad, bread, and dessert.  

Sign up sheets are posted for preparation and distribution volunteers.  Also look for additional parking lot attendants.  


WASS Group

The Widows and Senior Singles Group will meet again on Wednesday, September 20 at noon.  The group will dine at Arooga's (across from the Centerville Diner; at Centerville Rd and Columbia Ave).  A sign-up is posted in the narthex for those who wish to attend. 


First Sunday Fellowship

The next First Sunday Fellowship will be on September 3rd following worship.

Would you consider being a host/hostess for one of our upcoming Fellowship Hours? We are looking for persons to host in 2024.  Please sign up in the narthex and see the bulletin board for details to contact Julie S, the Fellowship Hour Coordinator. 

We need worship for our spirit and fellowship for our soul.   


Men's Group

The next Men's Group will be held on Saturday, October 7th (cooking begins at 7:30 a.m.; breakfast at 8:30a.m.).  This group will meet the FIRST Saturday of each month through June of 2024. Join us for a time of fellowship!


Lydia Circle

All women of the parish are invited to join us for our monthly gathering of Lydia Circle. This group meets on the FIRST Tuesday of each month. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 3rd at 7:00 p.m.  Jennifer Gehman from Tenfold will speak to the work of this important ministry in Lancaster City - providing housing and other support to those who face homelessness, including veteran support.

Casting our Nets Prayer Shawl Ministry

 Casting Our Nets, Ascension's Prayer Shawl Ministry, provides beautifully knitted and crocheted prayer shawls to members, family, and friends of the congregation.  If you would like a prayer shawl to give to someone experiencing illness, loss, or another need, please stop by the church.  Prayer shawls can be found in the closet located in the church library. Casting our Nets meets every 1st and 3rd Monday at 7:00 p.m. in the conference room. 

Lutheran Disaster Response

You are invited to make financial contributions to support the relief efforts of natural and human-made disasters throughout the nation and world. Contributions may be made through your offering envelopes or by following these links: 
  • Lutheran World Relief (click here): Your gifts will be used to deliver urgent support and care, like: food, shelter, and other critically needed items; mission quilts and kits for families who have fled their homes; and medicine and supplies for clinics.  Use primarily to support people impacted by the war in Ukraine.  
  • ELCA Disaster Response (click here): Hurricane Ian made landfall with near Category 5 winds and dumping major amounts of rain, causing flooding.  With two more months of hurricane season, LDR is ready to respond to the need.

If you would like to make an in-kind donations to the "Needs List" at WSM, Ascension will be collecting the following items for March (please place items in the designated box): dish soap, bottle brushes, women's hygiene products (individually wrapped)


Solanco Food Bank Donations 

Non-perishable Food Items: Boxed Mashed potatoes; Boxed Scalloped or Au Gratin potatoes; Whole Grain Spaghetti or Pasta; Triscuits or Wheat Thin Crackers; Granola Bars; Chef Boyardee Micro Meals; Canned Chicken (12.5 oz  cans); Knorr Pasta Sides; Kids Juice Boxes; Low Salt Canned Soups; Canned Salmon; Canned Corned Beef or Spam; Applesauce cups; Fruit cups; Pudding cups; Rice Krispie Treats; Vienna Sausages; Pop Tarts; Nissan Ramen Noodles or Cup-O-Noodles; Tuna or Chicken Snack on the Run; Non-food items: Size 6 diapers, baby wipes,

Bridge of Hope

Churches Respond. Homelessness Ends. Hope Begins.

Ascension will continue to support BOH families with rental assistance.  If you would like to make a donation, please label your offering envelope "BOH rental assistance."  Thank you to everyone who continues to make a gift! 

Ascension has formed a new Neighboring Group to accompany a mother and her family.  Ascension has not been assigned a family (will be connected to a family in October or November).  When the Neighboring Group is assigned a family, rental support will be sent for that family's use.
